About the Authors

The authors, Myra Pravda, RN, MSN, & Jeanne Weiland, RN, MSN, CPNP have each worked in resident camping for many years. They both believe that a child should be prepared for an overnight camp experience and OFF TO CAMP is the result of their Master's thesis study.  Parents are encouraged to read this informative and entertaining book along with their children.  The DVD is for parents with invaluable information about sending their child to camp.

A photo of author Myra PravdaMyra Pravda, RN, MSN does consulting in parent-child health and hasexperience in camp nursing, children's sleep disorders, and creating after school programs for children. Myra has been a camp nurse for the past 33years, 29 of them associated with Camp Livingston, a resident camp in Indiana, first as the nurse and then as the health care supervisor. She currently works for Camp Chabad day camp in Cincinnati, Ohio, as their nurse, special needscoordinator, and camp manager. Myra is past president of the Association ofCamp Nurses, has been active in the American Camp Association onboth the state and local levels, and isco-author of the book The Basics of Camp Nursing.

Myra and her husband, Marvin, have three married children and seven grandchildren ages 6 to 12. All the grandchildren attend camp in the summer.

A photo of author Myra PravdaJeanne Weiland, RN, MSN, CPNP is a pediatric nurse practitioner at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. She has cared for children and families with cystic fibrosis for over 20 years. Jeanne has worked as a camp nurse and has served on the board of Camp Livingston. She led the camp's health committee for several years.

Jeanne and her husband, Jay, have two children, Sarah and Jonathan. All four of them enjoyed overnight camping as children.
